Cape Cod, Mass. (November 9, 2005) The ECAC announced today Yale's Will Porter was named Coach of the Year for the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC). Earning the Novice Coach of the Year honors was Browns Phoebe Manchester.
Porter, was also named the New England Region Coach of the Year by the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). His varsity eight crew (11-1 on the year) earned gold at the EARC Sprints and finished in seventh-place at the NCAA Championship.
Under Coach Murphys leadership, Browns second varsity eight and two novice eight crews were ranked number one in the region through the 2005 season. The second varsity eight boat rowed its way to a third place finish at the NCAA Championship this past season while the varsity four came through with a second overall finish. Murphy was named National Assistant Coach of the Year by the CRCA.
The EAWRC is a league of the ECAC and is comprised of Boston University, Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Radcliffe, Rutgers University, Syracuse University, United State Naval Academy, University of Wisconsin and Yale University.
